Icons Sets
Background
Icons can be assigned to Entities in the Ontology Configuration.
These icons are shown when viewing Networks.
Icon Sets configurations are simply collections of icons.
You can modify the Sintelix default icon set or create your own icon set.
How it works
When you assign an icon to an ontology class, the Icon Picker lists all of the icons in all of the Icon Sets configurations. The Default Icon Set is always listed first. All other Icon Sets are listed in alphabetical order (as shown below).
While you can add to the Default Icon Set, it may be useful to have a separate Icon Set for your preferred icons to make them easy to find. This also makes it easy to copy them between projects.
Quick Summary
Within an Icon Set, you can:
-
Upload icons to add icons to an Icon set by selecting
-
Delete an icon from an icon set by selecting the delete icon
visible when you hover over an icon
-
Rename an icon in an icon set, by double clicking on an icon.
You can also create, copy, rename, import, export and delete an Icon Set Configuration. See Manage Configurations.

Format
Sintelix supports any image type but vector formats (such as SVG Scalable Vector Graphics, an XML-based vector image format.) and formats that support transparency (such as PNG Portable Network Graphic, an image format capable of providing transparent backgrounds. and BMP Bitmap Image File, a raster image format.) work best.
To upload icons:
- Select .
- Select the images you want to upload.
- Select Open.
- When a user zooms in on a network graph the icons on the graph are enlarged. To simulate this and check the scalability of the icons, change the thumbnail size by dragging the slider at the top right of the pane.
Result: The icons are uploaded.
Vector icons can be scaled up and down without compromising the quality of the image.

Rename an icon
When an icon is uploaded, the file name is used as its label. You can change this label at any time.
Renaming an icon does not affect any ontology classes to which the icon has been assigned.
To rename an icon:
-
Double click on the icon.
Result: A Editing Label dialog is displayed.
- Enter the new name.
- Click .

Delete an icon
You can delete icons from icon sets. If you delete an icon that has been assigned to an ontology class, an error icon is shown instead.
